In an effort to improve road safety and reduce fatalities on Bangladesh’s roads, we recently spent a few productive days with the engineers of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD), delivering crucial training on using TRL’s iMAAP cloud-based accident analysis software. This advanced road crash data management tool is key to collecting and analysing crash data, enabling evidence-based interventions for safer roads.
TRL Software, in collaboration with key road sector stakeholders in Bangladesh, has been actively involved in implementing the iMAAP system for the RHD. Supported by financing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), this initiative marks a significant first step towards building RHD’s capacity to utilize crash data for road network planning and design. The training was designed to give both senior management and field engineers a comprehensive understanding of the system, including its processes and the institutional measures necessary to sustain its use.
The training sessions provided an overview of how the iMAAP system works and equipped engineers with the skills to manage road safety data effectively. This knowledge is vital for identifying problem areas and implementing targeted safety interventions to reduce road crash fatalities.
Bangladesh, like many other developing nations, faces the challenge of high road crash rates. Sustaining initiatives such as the iMAAP system requires continued funding and strong institutional support. It’s encouraging to see the enthusiasm from RHD engineers, who are committed to improving the safety of the road network they manage.
This collaborative effort represents an important milestone, but it’s just the beginning. For Bangladesh to continue reducing road crashes and fatalities, long-term dedication and investment are essential. We look forward to continuing our partnership with RHD and other stakeholders to improve road safety across the country.
A Global Perspective on Road Safety
As professionals working in road safety across the globe, we understand that road safety improvements require consistent effort and collaboration. The work being done in Bangladesh through iMAAP highlights the importance of a structured, data-driven approach to managing road safety challenges. We encourage road safety authorities, police forces, and other stakeholders worldwide to explore the benefits of crash data management systems like iMAAP to create safer roads for all.
Together, we can make roads safer and save lives.
